Shimmy into Suffolk
Made up of 10 towns on the East coast of England, each individual in their own way, Suffolk has something to offer everyone. Named after ‘Southern Folk’, Suffolk is a quintessentially English county that celebrates everything Britain has to offer. From a canvas of artists of all varieties to working farmland and wartime coastline, Suffolk has been the backdrop to England’s history books for centuries, and now could be the backdrop to your next holiday. The Sussex skies showcase all of the colours of an artist’s palette above its flat land. Once home to John Constable who revolutionised the romantic painting genre, the Suffolk landscape is celebrated. No need for wellies, Suffolk is known for the driest weather in England, you can nearly guarantee a rain free Suffolk summer staycation or an autumn escape filled with long walks and trail cycles. Keep an eye out for any Anglo-Saxon riches along your way as Suffolk is home to the best source of archaeological evidence of that period in England’s history.

As you venture between Thorpeness and Aldeburgh be sure to take the trail along the flat coastline where you will stumble upon Maggi Hambling’s Scallop sculpture. The art installation celebrates and commemorates the lives of the Aldeburgh residents that lost their lives throughout the World Wars. Ever changing, the sculpture was created to morph and mould throughout the seasons and from different angles so that there is always a new way to look at it. If you look to your left if the sculpture is on your right as you face the direction of Thorpeness, take a look at the house in the clouds. We couldn’t have a property in Aldeburgh without a nod to Sutton Hoo. The vast and stunning 255 acre estate has a view over the River Deben and was the setting of the greatest archaeological digs of all time. With possessions discovered from an Anglo-Saxon King, Sutton Hoo is steeped in history and remembers the footsteps of those that have come before us.
